I am an artist, historian, and memory keeper who lives and works in Austin, Texas. I taught art history for twenty-five years at SMU in Dallas, specializing in modern European art. Research and teaching about art and cultural memory in Postwar Europe became the basis of a studio practice to which I now devote myself full time. Many of my pieces begin with old photographs of absent loved ones or places meaningful to me.  After transferring the photographic image to wood, I build around it using found objects, foraged natural materials, mosaic elements, and vintage memorabilia. Some of the elements come from the people or places represented in the photographs and some are chosen to evoke personal, cultural, or historical memory.
